What this trial studies
E-CANE is an observational program delivering remote Therapeutic Patient Education (e-TPE) workshops to adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer, coordinated from CHU Nice. Participants are AYA patients followed by one of the 27 French AYA coordinating nurses and must meet basic functional and technical criteria to join online sessions. The program builds on TPE methods used in chronic disease care to reinforce self-management, adherence, and psychosocial adaptation during and after cancer treatment. Outcomes focus on patient-reported skills, adherence-related behaviors, and feasibility of delivering education remotely to this age group.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents and young adults in France diagnosed with cancer at least one month earlier, followed by an AYA coordinating nurse, with Karnofsky index >60%, life expectancy ≥6 months, French literacy, no major cognitive or sensory impairment, and access to a smartphone/tablet/computer with internet.
Not a fit: Patients who lack internet access or digital skills, have significant cognitive or progressive psychiatric disorders, active substance abuse, or very limited life expectancy are unlikely to benefit from these remote workshops.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve self-care, treatment adherence, and psychosocial coping for AYA with cancer through convenient remote education.
How similar studies have performed: Therapeutic Patient Education has shown benefits for self-management and adherence in chronic disease and some oncology settings, but remote AYA-specific e-TPE programs remain less extensively studied.
