What this trial studies

Buit in de klas is a school-based prevention program delivered to secondary school students that combines a short film with an accompanying lesson, typically during citizenship class. The program aims to improve students' ability to recognize early risk signs, increase awareness of consequences to shift attitudes, and teach help-seeking skills for themselves or peers. Participants are secondary school students aged 12–20 who receive the program as implemented at participating schools, and researchers will measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and reported help-seeking behavior. The project is led by Utrecht University in collaboration with VU University Amsterdam and NSCR and is conducted at participating schools in the Netherlands.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are secondary school students aged 12–20 who attend participating schools and can take part in the classroom lesson and film.

Not a fit: Students younger than 12, older than 20, or not enrolled in school are not eligible and are unlikely to benefit from this school-based program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help reduce youth involvement in criminal exploitation by improving recognition, attitudes, and help-seeking among students.

How similar studies have performed: School-based prevention programs targeting delinquency and exploitation have shown mixed results in prior research, and this specific program's effectiveness has not yet been conclusively demonstrated.
