What this trial studies

This study aims to collect pediatric tumor tissues and cells from autopsies to create innovative patient-derived orthotopic xenograft (PDOX) mouse models and in vitro cell culture systems for pediatric cancers. The collected tissues will undergo thorough histopathological and molecular analysis, be cryopreserved for future studies, and be made available to other research organizations. This approach seeks to enhance understanding of pediatric cancers and improve preclinical drug testing methodologies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pediatric patients with cancer or non-cancer tumor types who have consented to post mortem tissue donation.

Not a fit: Patients who do not consent to post mortem tissue donation and autopsy will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better preclinical models for pediatric cancers, ultimately improving treatment options for affected children.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using post mortem tissues for research is established, the specific application to pediatric cancers through PDOX models is relatively novel.
