Digitizing and Automating the Diagnostic Psychiatric Assessment Process

Observational Fundación Pública Andaluza para la Investigación de Málaga en Biomedicina y Salud · NCT07468214

What this trial studies

This is a real-world, prospective, multicenter, single-arm observational effort within an international consortium to digitize and automate diagnostic evaluation in child and adolescent psychiatry using an explainable AI–based solution. The Spanish team is responsible for WP1, which covers translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation of the Electronic Semi-Structured Psychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents (EPSI-C) based on DSM-5 criteria. WP4 will run a pilot feasibility validation across and within countries to test integration of the EPSI-C with new technologies and AI to support diagnostic workflows. The study recruits children aged 6–17 referred from primary care and compares EPSI-C outputs against clinical information gathered in routine care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 6–17 with a mental health referral from primary care and a stable caregiver able to report clinical history, without moderate-to-severe intellectual disability or global developmental disorder, are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Children under state care without a stable caregiver, those with global developmental disorders or moderate-to-severe intellectual disability, or those with incomplete or unclear medical data may not receive benefit from this tool.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could make diagnostic interviews faster and more consistent, helping children get the right care sooner.

How similar studies have performed: The EPSI-C was developed in Sweden and similar digital semi-structured interview tools have shown promise for improving diagnostic consistency, but cross-cultural validation is still limited.
