Digital serious game to improve critical care nurses' targeted temperature management skills and situational awareness.
Effectiveness of Serious Game on Facilitating Targeted Temperature Management Knowledge and Situational Awareness Among Critical Care Nurses
We will test whether adding a digital serious game to regular lectures helps adult ICU nurses learn targeted temperature management and improve situational awareness.

What this trial studies
This randomized trial will enroll 120 registered nurses working in adult intensive care units and randomly assign them to lecture-based teaching alone or to the same lectures plus a digital serious game for additional practice. Participants will complete a pre-test, a post-test one week after the intervention, and a follow-up test at six weeks. Primary outcomes include improvement in TTM knowledge, with secondary outcomes of situational awareness and system usability. The intervention aims to provide repeated, simulated practice in a safe digital environment to address limited clinical exposure and time for traditional training.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Registered nurses currently working in adult medical, surgical, or mixed ICUs who can read Chinese, are willing to consent, and can complete the pre-test, post-test, and six-week follow-up are the ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Nurses who work in pediatric or neonatal ICUs, non-clinical administrative staff, non-Chinese speakers, or those already participating in other TTM education programs are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this could help nurses deliver more consistent and timely targeted temperature management after cardiac arrest, potentially improving neurological outcomes and patient safety.
How similar studies have performed: Previous education research indicates serious games can boost learner motivation, knowledge retention, and decision-making, but direct evidence for TTM-specific serious games is limited.
