What this trial studies

This is a retrospective observational chart review of patients with diagnosed diabetes who received dilated fundus examinations and optical coherence tomography (OCT) at a general hospital in Da Nang, Vietnam. Investigators will extract clinical and laboratory data from electronic medical records to determine the prevalence and distribution of DR stages. They will analyze associations between DR presence/severity and factors such as diabetes duration, glycemic control, blood pressure, and other clinical tests. Results aim to inform local screening and management priorities to reduce preventable vision loss.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes who underwent dilated fundus examination and OCT and have available key clinical and laboratory data in the hospital's electronic records.

Not a fit: People with gestational diabetes, media opacities that prevented fundus examination, other retinal diseases, recent intraocular surgery, or incomplete medical records are unlikely to benefit or be included in the analysis.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If clear risk patterns are identified, the results could help target screening and treatment to reduce preventable vision loss in the local diabetes population.

How similar studies have performed: Similar hospital-based prevalence and risk-factor reviews have been done worldwide and have reliably identified common risk factors such as longer diabetes duration, poor glycemic control, and hypertension.
