What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify early markers of long-term diabetic complications in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). It will involve a one-day visit for 400 participants aged 6-18 years, where they will undergo a series of examinations including blood sampling and assessments of arterial stiffness and nerve function. The study focuses on understanding the relationship between glucose control, variability, and insulin sensitivity in relation to these complications. The findings could help improve metabolic control and monitoring in young patients with T1D.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 6-18 years with type 1 diabetes for more than 12 months.
Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes for less than 12 months or those with known cardiovascular disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection and better management of long-term complications in children with type 1 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in identifying early markers of diabetic complications, making this approach promising yet still requiring further validation.
