What this trial studies
This project aims to understand how patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) prefer to receive educational materials regarding treatment options and decision-making. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a decision support intervention compared to general education, focusing on its feasibility and acceptability among EoE patients. The hypothesis is that the intervention will enhance treatment knowledge, readiness to choose therapy, adherence, and follow-up among participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are new EoE patients aged 18 and older who have an upcoming outpatient visit at the University of Michigan and can read and speak English.
Not a fit: Patients who are terminally ill, have significant cognitive or visual impairments, or lack reliable internet access may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could empower patients with better knowledge and decision-making capabilities regarding their treatment for eosinophilic esophagitis.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing patient education and decision-making in other chronic conditions.
