What this trial studies
This interventional study enrolls current soft toric contact lens wearers who routinely have long hours of wear. Participants will wear a daily disposable toric lens through extended waking hours and report on comfort and vision throughout the day. Eligible participants must have 20/25 vision or better with their current toric lenses and a comprehensive eye exam within the past two years, while those with ocular surface disease, prior corneal surgery, or systemic conditions affecting tear film are excluded. The trial is conducted at The Ohio State University College of Optometry in Columbus, Ohio in collaboration with a contact lens manufacturer.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with astigmatism who currently wear soft toric lenses for long hours, have 20/25 vision or better with those lenses, and can attend the Columbus, Ohio site.
Not a fit: Patients with dry eye, active ocular inflammation or infection, prior corneal/ocular surgery, corneal dystrophies, systemic conditions that alter tear film, past rigid lens wear, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this could provide people with astigmatism a comfortable single-use lens option that maintains clear vision during long wearing days.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research on daily disposable toric lenses has generally shown good comfort and stable vision, though results can vary by individual fit and lens design.
