What this trial studies

This research tests the effectiveness of Parenting in 2 Worlds (P2W), a culturally grounded intervention aimed at American Indian/Alaska Native parents of adolescents in urban areas. The study compares P2W to an informational intervention, Healthy Families in 2 Worlds (HF2W), to assess improvements in parenting skills and family functioning. Conducted across four urban regions, the trial employs Community-based Participatory Research methods, involving local urban Indian centers in the implementation and delivery of the interventions. The study also examines how socioeconomic vulnerability and cultural identity influence the effectiveness of the interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include American Indian parents or guardians of children aged 12 to 17 who reside in urban areas and attend urban schools.

Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as American Indian or whose children do not attend urban schools may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance parenting skills and reduce risky health behaviors among adolescents in American Indian families.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with culturally tailored interventions for similar populations, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
