What this trial studies

CTNow is a pilot, multilevel intervention that combines patient education, provider education, and teleconference resources to improve access and referrals to cancer clinical trials in rural areas. The program delivers tailored educational materials and remote conferencing to patients and local oncology providers to increase awareness and streamline referral pathways. Enrollment targets adults with any cancer who live in specified Hawaii counties and who have not previously participated in a cancer clinical trial. The pilot will measure feasibility and changes in trial awareness and referral activity within participating rural sites.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults (18+) diagnosed with any cancer who live in Hawaii, Kauai, or Maui counties, can read and speak English, are receiving or about to start cancer treatment (within 90 days) or have recently received treatment, and have not previously participated in a cancer clinical trial.

Not a fit: Patients who live outside the specified Hawaii counties, are under 18, cannot use English-language materials or phone calls, or have already participated in a cancer clinical trial are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could increase awareness of and referrals to cancer clinical trials for rural patients, potentially giving them access to more treatment options.

How similar studies have performed: Previous education and telehealth interventions have shown promise increasing clinical trial awareness and referrals, though rural-focused pilots remain limited and results vary by setting.
