What this trial studies
This observational study aims to adapt the ACTION FALLS programme, originally designed for older adults, for use with adults who have intellectual disabilities. The programme includes a falls checklist, videos, and resource materials for both adults with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers, as well as a clinician manual for healthcare professionals. The study will involve clinicians and adults with intellectual disabilities to assess the usability and effectiveness of the adapted programme in identifying fall risk factors. Feedback will be gathered through a 'Think Aloud' method to understand the experiences of both clinicians and participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and over with intellectual disabilities who are accessing specific clinical services in Nottingham.
Not a fit: Patients who lack the capacity to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this programme could significantly reduce fall risks and improve safety for adults with intellectual disabilities.
How similar studies have performed: While the ACTION FALLS programme has shown success in older populations, adapting it for adults with intellectual disabilities is a novel approach.
