What this trial studies
This observational study aims to develop and validate a scale that caregivers can use to detect common ocular conditions in adults with intellectual disabilities. The project focuses on creating an item bank of ocular conditions specifically for this population, addressing the current lack of caregiver-assessable scales. By improving the identification of vision problems, the study seeks to enhance the overall health care access for adults with intellectual disabilities. The study will take place over one year and will involve primary caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are primary caregivers of adults aged 20 and above with intellectual disabilities.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese or cannot cooperate with eye examinations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection and treatment of eye conditions in adults with intellectual disabilities, improving their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be limited studies specifically targeting this approach, the need for improved assessment tools for individuals with intellectual disabilities suggests a novel and necessary advancement.
