What this trial studies
This study aims to develop a validated tool called the Cough Control Questionnaire (CCQ) to assess the control of chronic cough, which affects a significant portion of the population. The research will be conducted in three phases: first, a literature review of existing tools; second, the development of the CCQ through patient focus groups and expert reviews; and third, the validation of the CCQ with patients suffering from chronic cough. The goal is to create a patient-focused measure that can evaluate treatment benefits in clinical and research settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and over with chronic cough or acute cough who can read and write in English.
Not a fit: Patients who are current smokers, have had a respiratory infection recently, or are pregnant may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this tool could improve the assessment and management of chronic cough, leading to better patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there are existing tools for other respiratory diseases, this approach to developing a dedicated cough control assessment is novel and has not been extensively tested.
