What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on developing a shared decision-making tool for patients who have undergone surgery for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). By observing conversations between patients and their doctors, the study aims to refine an evidence-based decision aid that will help inform discussions about potential adjuvant treatment options. The tool is designed to enhance patient satisfaction by facilitating shared decision-making and providing tailored recommendations. Clinicians will also use a prototype of the decision aid during discussions and complete a questionnaire to provide feedback.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with biopsy-proven resected non-small cell lung cancer who are discussing adjuvant treatment options.
Not a fit: Patients with major barriers to providing informed consent, such as dementia or severe sensory impairments, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this tool could significantly improve patient satisfaction and decision-making regarding post-surgery treatment options.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using shared decision-making tools in similar contexts, indicating a promising approach.
