What this trial studies
This project aims to enhance the self-management of cardiometabolic diseases among Native Hawaiians through culturally relevant cooking demonstrations and lessons. Over five years, the investigators will conduct quarterly events to promote traditional diets, improve diet quality, and foster community cohesion. Participants will engage in cooking demonstrations, complete surveys to assess their dietary habits and perceptions, and contribute to a larger evaluation of the program's impact on health outcomes. The initiative focuses on creating a supportive environment for healthier eating within the community.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are Native Hawaiian adults aged 18 and older who are overweight or obese and have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have serious illnesses that limit participation, or are under 18 years old may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians by reducing the prevalence of diet-related diseases.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on culturally tailored interventions for diet-related diseases have shown promise, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
