What this trial studies
This study aims to integrate jail release records with electronic health records to create a seamless care pathway for individuals upon their release from jail. The intervention focuses on enhancing engagement with behavioral health services to prevent suicide attempts. It evaluates the effectiveness of this approach on suicide outcomes, the utilization of behavioral health services, and various implementation factors such as cost-effectiveness and scalability. The study will provide insights into how to improve care for this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been released from jail and have a history of healthcare engagement within the last three years.
Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in Michigan or Minnesota, or those who require a translator to participate, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce suicide attempts among individuals released from jail by ensuring they receive timely and appropriate mental health care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in integrating health and justice systems for improved mental health outcomes, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
