What this trial studies

This descriptive observational project asks people who were diagnosed with cancer between ages 15 and 39 to complete questionnaires about their treatments and follow‑up care, fertility preservation, clinical trial participation, emotional and mental health, interpersonal relationships, financial burden, and other support needs. Participants may enroll at any age as long as their diagnosis occurred between 15–39 years and they received cancer-directed treatment at a participating center. The questionnaires are self-reported and collected across two North Carolina centers (Atrium Health Levine Cancer in Charlotte and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston‑Salem). Responses will be analyzed to identify common gaps in education and resources to guide future programs and services.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are people diagnosed with cancer between ages 15 and 39 who have received or are receiving cancer-directed treatment at one of the participating centers.

Not a fit: Patients with severe emotional distress or anxiety that prevents completion of questionnaires, or people who were not treated at a participating center, are unlikely to benefit from or be eligible for this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinics create better education and support services for AYA patients, such as improved fertility counseling, exercise guidance, and financial or psychosocial resources.

How similar studies have performed: Previous AYA needs-assessment surveys have repeatedly found gaps in fertility preservation and psychosocial support, so this work builds on existing evidence rather than testing a novel intervention.
