What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wheelchair treadmill exercises in improving trunk balance and stability compared to conventional wheelchair exercises in individuals with spinal cord injuries. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group performing standard exercises or an experimental group using a wheelchair treadmill. The study will measure various outcomes, including trunk balance, daily independence, wheelchair satisfaction, quality of life, and fear of falling. This research seeks to identify more effective rehabilitation methods for enhancing mobility and daily functioning in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years or older with spinal cord injuries at the T6 level or below who are manual wheelchair users.
Not a fit: Patients with osteoporosis, cardiopulmonary diseases, other neurological conditions, musculoskeletal disorders, or orthostatic hypotension may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved rehabilitation techniques that enhance trunk balance and overall quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
