Comparing ultrasound imaging techniques for ulcerative colitis
Comparing Three Modalities (Trans Abdominal, Trans-perineal and Endoscopic Ultrasound) of Ultrasonography for Rectal Imaging in Ulcerative Colitis: the TRINITY Study
NA · Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, India · NCT06717906

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the correlation of rectal wall thickness and vascularity measurements using trans-abdominal ultrasound (TAS), trans-perineal ultrasound (TPUS), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in adults with ulcerative colitis. The primary objective is to correlate rectal wall thickness measured by TPUS with EUS findings, while secondary objectives include assessing the relationship between these measurements and endoscopic and histologic activity. Patients will undergo clinical assessments and various ultrasound techniques, with additional sigmoidoscopy and EUS performed if clinically indicated. The study aims to improve patient management based on these imaging techniques.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult patients aged 18-75 with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, lactating, or do not require endoscopy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the accuracy of diagnosing and managing ulcerative colitis through improved imaging techniques.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using ultrasound techniques for assessing inflammatory bowel diseases, but this specific approach is relatively novel.
