What this trial studies

This study observes patients diagnosed with gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma who are scheduled to undergo either minimally invasive proximal gastrectomy (MIPG) or minimally invasive total gastrectomy (MITG) as part of their routine care. Participants will complete a questionnaire one month prior to surgery and then at one, three, six, and twelve months post-surgery to assess outcomes and recovery. The goal is to gather data on the effectiveness and recovery experiences associated with each surgical approach.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of non-metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma scheduled for surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with known malabsorption syndromes, narcotic dependence, or those unable to comply with study procedures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help determine which surgical method offers better outcomes for patients with gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancers.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored minimally invasive surgical techniques for gastric cancer, showing promising results, but this specific comparison is novel.
