What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of KeriFlex® metacarpophalangeal joint prostheses compared to Swanson finger joint implants in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or post-traumatic osteoarthritis. The primary outcome will be assessed using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, with evaluations occurring at least one year post-surgery. The study will include patients who received these implants at Waldfriede Hospital between 2014 and 2022.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-90 who have undergone metacarpophalangeal joint prosthesis surgery using either the Swanson or KeriFlex implant system.

Not a fit: Patients with recent bone fractures in the same limb, those who are pregnant or lactating, or individuals with active malignant tumors may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into which prosthesis offers better functional outcomes for patients with finger joint arthritis.

How similar studies have performed: While this study compares two established prosthetic options, similar studies have shown varying results, indicating the need for further investigation in this area.
