What this trial studies

This study compares the effectiveness and safety of Gonioscopy-assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy and canaloplasty in patients with medically uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma. Both procedures aim to improve aqueous outflow but utilize different techniques, with canaloplasty being a newer approach. The study will evaluate success rates, intraocular pressure, medication burden, and complication rates between the two surgical methods. This is the first study to directly compare these two procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with confirmed uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma and no prior glaucoma surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with angle closure glaucoma, congenital glaucoma, or inflammatory glaucoma may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify the more effective surgical option for patients with open-angle glaucoma, potentially improving their treatment outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: There have been no prior studies comparing Gonioscopy-assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy and canaloplasty, making this approach novel.
