What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery (ECIRS) for treating complex kidney stones in obese patients. It focuses on achieving a higher stone-free rate while minimizing complications associated with these procedures. The study will evaluate both the efficacy and safety of these surgical approaches in a single session, utilizing the Galdakao-modified Supine Valdivia position. The target population includes adults with significant obesity and complex renal stones.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are obese adults aged 18-60 with partial or complete staghorn stones.

Not a fit: Patients with congenital renal anomalies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical outcomes and reduced complications for obese patients suffering from complex kidney stones.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success with similar surgical approaches, but this specific comparison in obese patients is novel.
