What this trial studies

This study examines the effects of open and closed system suctioning on pain and vital signs in newborns receiving mechanical ventilation in neonatal intensive care units. The goal is to identify which method minimizes pain and stress during the endotracheal aspiration procedure, which is commonly performed to improve oxygenation and clear secretions. By implementing evidence-based practices, the study aims to enhance the care provided by nurses and reduce complications associated with suctioning.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are newborns who are mechanically ventilated and require suctioning while being hemodynamically stable.

Not a fit: Patients with facial or skull deformities or chromosomal/genetic abnormalities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management and overall care for newborns undergoing suctioning procedures.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored suctioning methods in neonatal care, but this specific comparison of open versus closed systems is less common and may provide novel insights.
