What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the effectiveness and patient satisfaction of two techniques for treating kidney stones 6 mm and larger during ureteroscopy: high-powered laser dusting and basket extraction. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups, with the dusting method breaking stones into tiny fragments that can pass through urine, while the basket method involves physically removing stone fragments. After the procedure, patients will report their pain levels and daily activities through questionnaires until they recover. Follow-up assessments will include ultrasounds and standard imaging to check for any remaining stones.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with kidney stones 6 mm or larger located in the mid ureter or higher.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, those with a solitary kidney, or individuals unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment options for patients with larger kidney stones, enhancing recovery and satisfaction.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar laser dusting techniques, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
