What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare the cuff inflation-deflation method with the conventional Magill forceps technique for nasal intubation in adult patients undergoing elective dental or maxillofacial surgery. The study will assess whether the inflation-deflation technique is quicker and associated with fewer complications, such as cuff perforation and mucosal injury. Ninety participants aged 18 to 60, with ASA physical status I-II, will be randomly assigned to one of the two techniques. The trial will be conducted in a blinded manner to ensure objective assessment of outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 60 scheduled for elective dental or maxillofacial surgery requiring nasal intubation.

Not a fit: Patients with coagulopathies, upper airway abnormalities, or those at risk for aspiration will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to a safer and more efficient method for nasal intubation, reducing complications and procedure time for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific comparison of cuff inflation-deflation versus Magill forceps for nasal intubation is relatively novel.
