Comparing thermal values in amputated and healthy limbs of individuals with below-knee amputation
Examination of Intact and Amputated Extremity Thermographic Values in Individuals With Transtibial Amputation
This study is testing if the temperature differences between the amputated and healthy legs of people with below-knee amputations can help us understand their knee pain better.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to compare thermographic values in the knee region of both the amputated and healthy extremities in individuals with transtibial amputation. It seeks to understand the relationship between these thermal values and the pain experienced in the knee region of the amputated limb. By utilizing a non-invasive thermal infrared thermometer, the study will evaluate skin temperature as an indicator of cutaneous circulation and potential degenerative processes. This research is significant as it addresses a gap in knowledge regarding thermal changes in amputees and their implications for knee health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a unilateral below-knee amputation who can walk with a prosthesis.
Not a fit: Patients with bilateral amputations or those unable to walk independently for 10 minutes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the management of knee pain and health in amputees, potentially leading to improved care strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on thermal values in amputees, similar studies in other populations have shown promising results in understanding thermal changes related to health conditions.
