What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) delivered via telehealth compared to traditional clinic-based TF-CBT for youth experiencing trauma symptoms in Puerto Rico. It employs a randomized controlled trial design to assess improvements in trauma symptoms, as well as the feasibility, acceptability, and engagement of telehealth delivery by community providers. The study aims to provide insights into the implementation factors that influence the success of telehealth interventions in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are youth aged 7-18 who have experienced at least one traumatic event and exhibit clinically significant post-traumatic stress symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients with significant suicidal ideation, substance use disorders, active psychotic symptoms, pervasive developmental delays, or those living with the perpetrator of their abuse may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve access to effective trauma therapy for youth in Puerto Rico, potentially leading to better mental health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with telehealth approaches for mental health treatment, suggesting that this method could be effective for trauma-focused therapy as well.
