What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of early palliative care provided by specialists on the quality of life and survival of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard oncology care or early palliative care alongside their treatment. The early palliative care group will attend monthly palliative care appointments for the first three months, while the control group will only attend oncology appointments. Patients will complete various questionnaires to assess their quality of life, mental health, and pain levels throughout the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with pathologically confirmed advanced non-small cell lung cancer who are about to start systemic treatment.

Not a fit: Patients who have previously received systemic treatment for advanced lung cancer may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the quality of life and potentially improve survival rates for patients with advanced lung cancer.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that early palliative care can improve outcomes for advanced lung cancer patients, but this study aims to evaluate its effectiveness in the context of modern treatment options.
