What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of resistance exercise versus endurance exercise in preventing obesity relapse among post-bariatric surgery patients who have experienced insufficient weight loss. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: a resistance exercise group, an endurance exercise group, or a control group receiving standard medical care. The study will assess changes in resting metabolic rate, pressure pain threshold, spine mobility, and thoracolumbar strength over a 16-week intervention period. The goal is to determine which exercise modality is more beneficial for this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 65 who have undergone primary bariatric surgery within the last 18 to 24 months and are experiencing insufficient weight loss.

Not a fit: Patients currently participating in a structured exercise program or those with health conditions contraindicating exercise may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the most effective exercise regimen for preventing obesity relapse in post-bariatric surgery patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing research on exercise post-bariatric surgery, this specific comparison of resistance versus endurance exercise in this context is relatively novel.
