What this trial studies
This observational cross-sectional case-control study evaluates the postoperative quality of life in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) who underwent thyroid lobectomy using either an open or trans-axillary surgical approach. The study focuses on five aspects of quality of life, including general well-being, thyroid-specific quality of life, scar appearance, voice function, and swallowing ability. Patients are recruited from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and assessed through outpatient visits and validated questionnaires. The aim is to provide insights into how different surgical techniques impact patients' functional and cosmetic outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma who have undergone thyroid lobectomy.
Not a fit: Patients with other primary malignancies or severe chronic diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help improve surgical approaches for thyroid cancer, enhancing patients' quality of life and cosmetic outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into cosmetic surgical approaches, this study aims to fill a gap in high-quality comparative studies on functional and cosmetic outcomes in PTC patients.
