What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of two medications, Pregabalin and Lacosamide, in treating post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), a painful condition that can occur after shingles. The study involves patients aged 18 to 50 who have been diagnosed with herpes zoster and are experiencing PHN. Participants will receive either Pregabalin or Lacosamide to determine which medication provides better pain relief. The trial aims to address the often debilitating pain associated with PHN, which can significantly impact daily life and well-being.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 50 diagnosed with herpes zoster and experiencing post-herpetic neuralgia.

Not a fit: Patients who are already taking painkillers for post-herpetic neuralgia or have other systemic illnesses may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective pain management options for patients suffering from post-herpetic neuralgia.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the efficacy of Pregabalin and Lacosamide for neuropathic pain, indicating potential for success in this approach.
