What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching compared to conventional physical therapy in alleviating symptoms of Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) in elderly patients. The research aims to determine if PNF stretching can significantly improve both RLS symptoms and related sleep disturbances. Conducted as a randomized controlled trial, the study will involve participants aged 60 and above who meet the diagnostic criteria for primary RLS. The trial will take place at Fauji Foundation Hospital in Islamabad over the course of one year.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly individuals aged 60 and above who have been diagnosed with primary Restless Leg Syndrome.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of underlying diseases that contribute to RLS symptoms may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new therapeutic approach to managing Restless Leg Syndrome in the elderly, potentially improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While various stretching techniques have been studied for RLS, this specific comparison of PNF stretching versus conventional therapy is novel and has not been extensively tested.
