What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate postoperative pain and comfort levels in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) for kidney stones larger than 2 cm. A total of 90 patients aged 18 and over will be included, with their demographic data, stone characteristics, and preoperative tests recorded. After the PNL procedure, patients will be randomized into three groups: one without any drainage, one with a Double J stent, and one with a nephrostomy tube. The study will assess pain scores, analgesic use, and complications to determine the best approach for postoperative care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and over with kidney stones larger than 2 cm.

Not a fit: Patients with anatomical anomalies, bilateral kidney stones, or those under 18 years of age may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved postoperative comfort and reduced pain for patients undergoing kidney stone surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success with different drainage methods in similar surgical procedures, but this specific comparison is novel.
