What this trial studies

This study compares the effects of peripheral muscle training and inspiratory muscle training, both combined with aerobic exercise, on various health outcomes in geriatric individuals aged 65 to 80. The research aims to assess improvements in muscle strength, physical performance, respiratory muscle strength, functional capacity, and overall quality of life. By focusing on the physiological changes associated with aging, the study seeks to determine which training method is more effective in combating sarcopenia and enhancing daily living activities.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are geriatric individuals aged 65 to 80 who can walk 10 meters with or without assistance and have a Mini Mental Test score of 20 or higher.

Not a fit: Patients with serious neurological, orthopedic, cardiac, or pulmonary conditions that prevent exercise, as well as those with significant sensory impairments or psychiatric diseases, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved muscle strength and quality of life for older adults, helping them maintain independence and reduce the risk of disease.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that both peripheral and inspiratory muscle training can effectively improve exercise capacity in older adults, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing literature.
