What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of a high-fat ketogenic diet (HFKD) versus a low-fat diet (LFD) on weight reduction among healthy overweight and obese women in Saudi Arabia. It is a randomized controlled trial involving 28 participants aged 18 to 40 with a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 34.5 kg/m² and fat percentage above 30%. Participants will follow either the HFKD or LFD for 12 weeks, with primary outcomes focused on body weight and fat percentage reduction, and secondary outcomes including blood glucose and lipid profile assessments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy overweight and obese women aged 18 to 40 with a BMI between 25 and 34.5 kg/m².

Not a fit: Patients who are men, have a normal weight, or are breastfeeding or pregnant will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into effective dietary strategies for weight management in overweight and obese women.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown varying success with dietary interventions for weight loss, but this specific comparison of HFKD and LFD in this demographic is relatively novel.
