Comparing high and low ligation techniques in colon cancer surgery
Evaluation of Clinical and Oncological Outcomes After High and Low Ligation of Inferior Mesenteric Artery in Elective Left-sided Colon and Rectal Cancer
This study tests whether a high or low tie method during colon cancer surgery helps patients have better outcomes and more accurate tumor staging.

What this trial studies
This study compares the outcomes of high tie and low tie ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery in patients undergoing elective surgeries for left-sided colorectal cancer. The research aims to determine which technique yields better oncological outcomes and lymph node yield rates, which are crucial for accurate tumor staging. By analyzing surgical results, the study seeks to provide insights into optimal surgical practices for colorectal cancer treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elective patients diagnosed with left-sided colon or rectal cancer.
Not a fit: Patients who are unfit due to uncontrolled medical conditions, those with acute intestinal obstruction, or individuals above 75 years or pediatric patients may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical techniques that enhance patient outcomes in colon cancer treatment.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated the importance of lymph node dissection techniques, suggesting that this approach may yield beneficial results, although this specific comparison is less commonly tested.
