Comparing hemodynamic monitoring techniques during liver transplantation

"Monitoraggio Emodinamico Intraoperatorio in OLT"

NA · IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna · NCT06703008

What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare two hemodynamic monitoring techniques during orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) to determine if one method can reduce intraoperative hypotension time. Participants will be randomized to receive either conventional monitoring with a pulmonary artery catheter or monitoring with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). The study will evaluate differences in intraoperative hypotension duration and secondary outcomes such as organ dysfunction and mortality. Given the complexities of OLT, effective hemodynamic management is crucial for improving patient outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who are candidates for liver transplantation and can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with bleeding esophageal varices, bleeding gastro-esophageal ulcers, or gastro-esophageal anomalies may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved hemodynamic management during liver transplantation, potentially reducing complications and mortality.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of TEE in liver transplantation has increased, this study is among the first randomized controlled trials to evaluate its effectiveness compared to traditional methods.
