What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effects of a modified fixed twin block appliance compared to a conventional removable twin block appliance in growing patients with skeletal Class 2 malocclusion and mandibular deficiency. The study aims to determine if there are significant differences in treatment outcomes, including overjet reduction and other dentoskeletal effects. It employs a randomized parallel group design with a 1:1 allocation ratio to ensure unbiased results. Primary and secondary outcomes will be assessed to gauge the effectiveness and patient acceptance of each appliance type.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are growing patients diagnosed with skeletal Class 2 malocclusion and a mandibular deficiency.
Not a fit: Patients who are skeletally mature, have normal mandibles with only protruded upper incisors, or have dental anomalies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into more effective orthodontic treatments for children with jaw growth issues.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored the effectiveness of twin block appliances, this specific comparison of modified fixed versus removable types is relatively novel.
