What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the cardiopulmonary responses of individuals with bronchiectasis during a 6-minute stepper test (6MST) and compare these responses to those of age and sex-matched healthy controls. The study will evaluate exercise capacity and physical activity levels, utilizing the 6MST and the 1-minute sit-to-stand test (1STS) to gather data. By investigating these parameters, the study seeks to provide insights into the exercise limitations faced by bronchiectasis patients compared to healthy individuals.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with clinically stable bronchiectasis who can cooperate with the testing procedures.

Not a fit: Patients experiencing acute exacerbations or those with cardiovascular, orthopedic, or neurological issues that may affect test performance are unlikely to benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of exercise capacity in bronchiectasis, potentially leading to improved management strategies for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited information on the specific tests being used, similar studies have shown that assessing exercise capacity in chronic lung diseases can yield valuable insights.
