What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial aims to compare the efficacy of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy against Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its comorbid conditions in Pakistan. The study will involve a single-blind, multi-center design with two arms, assessing whether EMDR is non-inferior to CBT in symptom reduction over time. Additionally, it will explore the relationship between PTSD symptoms and comorbid conditions, and work on developing virtual therapy applications for broader accessibility. The findings will help determine the effectiveness of both therapies in a Pakistani context.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 15 to 60 years who are diagnosed with PTSD and may have comorbid conditions such as depression or anxiety.
Not a fit: Patients outside the age range of 15 to 60 years, those unable to perform basic movements, or those with severe intellectual impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective treatment options for individuals suffering from PTSD and related disorders in Pakistan.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in comparing EMDR and CBT for PTSD, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
