What this trial studies

This project aims to reduce blood pressure among hypertensive individuals in Bangladesh and Pakistan over an 18-month period through a cluster randomized controlled trial. Approximately 3,600 hypertensive adults will participate, with community pharmacies randomly assigned to either an intervention or control group. The intervention includes educational training, counseling, and follow-up via phone calls and text messages to enhance medication adherence and health coordination. The study will assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of this pharmacist-led approach in managing hypertension.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 to 90 with hypertension and suboptimal medication adherence who can communicate in the local language.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have advanced medical diseases, or cognitive and psychiatric issues may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve blood pressure control and overall health outcomes for hypertensive patients in South Asia.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with pharmacist-led interventions in hypertension management, indicating a promising approach.
