What this trial studies

This research aims to implement a targeted, multi-component community-based intervention to decrease tuberculosis (TB) prevalence among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Hai Phong, Vietnam. The study will utilize repeated large-scale randomized driven sampling surveys to identify TB-infected PWID and assess their symptoms through questionnaires, CRP tests, chest X-rays, and sputum collection. The intervention is designed to enhance community involvement and improve access to TB care for this high-risk population, which has shown alarming TB prevalence rates. The study builds on previous findings that highlighted the significant TB burden among PWID in Vietnam.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 and older who self-declare as injecting heroin or other drugs and test positive for these substances.

Not a fit: Patients currently undergoing treatment for active TB or those with severe clinical conditions that may compromise their safety will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce TB prevalence among a vulnerable population, improving health outcomes and access to care.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community-based interventions targeting high-risk populations for TB, indicating a promising approach.
