What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of combining Mohs surgery with cryotherapy for treating malignant eyelid tumors compared to Mohs surgery alone. It is a randomized prospective study that includes patients with specific stages of eyelid basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and sebaceous carcinoma. Participants will be followed for three years to assess their prognosis and treatment outcomes based on the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging. The goal is to determine if the combined approach improves patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with eyelid basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or sebaceous carcinoma at stages Tis to T3cN0M0.
Not a fit: Patients with previous treatments in the study eye or those with complications such as infections will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to better treatment outcomes and prognosis for patients with eyelid malignant tumors.
How similar studies have performed: While the combination of Mohs surgery and cryotherapy is a novel approach, similar studies have shown promising results with Mohs surgery alone in treating eyelid tumors.
