What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of using a combination of ketamine and magnesium sulfate infusions during surgery to improve pain management after open rhinoplasty. By targeting NMDA receptors in the nervous system, the study aims to reduce postoperative pain and decrease the need for opioids. The approach is based on the premise that the two substances can work synergistically to enhance analgesia. Patients undergoing this procedure will be monitored for pain levels and opioid consumption post-surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 65 scheduled for open rhinoplasty under general anesthesia with ASA physical status I-II.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of drug addiction, significant cardiovascular or respiratory diseases, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved pain management and higher patient satisfaction after rhinoplasty.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that magnesium sulfate can effectively reduce opioid consumption, suggesting potential success for this combined approach.
