Colorectal cancer diagnosed before the usual screening age
Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer Patients Too Young for Screening: Outcomes and Treatment Patterns
This study uses national cancer registries to see if people diagnosed with colorectal cancer before age 35 present with more advanced disease but live longer than older patients.

What this trial studies
This population-based retrospective analysis uses the SEER registry and the National Cancer Data Base to compare patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer before age 35 to those diagnosed at older ages. Investigators will examine stage at presentation, insurance status at diagnosis, treatment patterns by stage, and cancer-specific survival adjusted for relevant covariates. The hypothesis is that younger patients present with more advanced disease but have longer survival because they receive more aggressive therapy. Results are derived from registry records and statistical analyses rather than prospective patient visits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: People with a confirmed diagnosis of colorectal cancer, particularly those diagnosed before age 35, are the focus of this analysis.
Not a fit: People without colorectal cancer will not directly benefit from this registry analysis.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If differences by age are confirmed, the findings could help inform screening recommendations and guide treatment planning for younger patients with colorectal cancer.
How similar studies have performed: Prior registry-based studies have documented rising incidence and distinct features of early-onset colorectal cancer, so this comparative registry approach is established though specific age-focused outcomes remain an active area of research.
