What this trial studies
This research repository aims to collect, store, and share biological samples from individuals diagnosed with various neuromuscular diseases. Participants will provide medical information and biological samples such as blood, skin cells, and muscle tissue, which will be stored at Virginia Commonwealth University for future research. The study emphasizes informed consent, ensuring participants understand the process and can ask questions before contributing samples. The collected data will facilitate further research into neuromuscular disorders.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with a diagnosed or suspected neuromuscular disease, those with a family history of such diseases, or healthy volunteers aged from neonates to 75 years.
Not a fit: Patients who are unwilling to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this biobank could enhance understanding and treatment options for neuromuscular diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While biobanks for neuromuscular diseases are not novel, the success of similar repositories has shown promise in advancing research in this field.
