Collection of blood samples to study inflammation in psychiatric disorders
Biocollection on Peripheral Inflammation in Psychiatric Pathologies
This study is trying to see if blood samples from people with psychiatric disorders like schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder can help us understand inflammation and improve diagnosis and treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to collect biological samples and associated phenotypic data from patients diagnosed with various psychiatric disorders, including schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder. The hypothesis is that peripheral inflammatory biomarkers may be common across these conditions, potentially leading to better diagnostic and prognostic tools. Participants will undergo standard blood sampling procedures and interviews with psychiatrists to assess their symptoms using standardized scales. The study builds on previous research and aims to contribute to a larger European research initiative.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder I or II, or related psychotic disorders who are under psychiatric care at Nantes University Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have a recent history of cancer, or have certain medical conditions such as autoimmune diseases will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of biomarkers that improve diagnosis and treatment for patients with psychiatric disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using inflammatory biomarkers in psychiatric disorders is being explored, this specific study's methodology is novel and has not been extensively tested in this context.
