What this trial studies
This observational study aims to co-design a scalable and sustainable implementation model for remote consultations in ophthalmic care, incorporating vision self-testing. It will involve patients, the public, and NHS staff to identify barriers to the uptake of remote consultations and develop strategies to overcome these challenges. The study will utilize a mixed methodology, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data from various stakeholders across three NHS eye departments. The implementation model will be tested in real-world settings to evaluate its effectiveness and sustainability.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients aged 4 years and older who are scheduled for follow-up remote eye consultations after an initial face-to-face visit.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse remote consultations or are converted to face-to-face appointments will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance access to eye care by facilitating remote consultations and improving patient self-testing capabilities.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in implementing remote consultations in healthcare, but this specific co-design approach is relatively novel.
